Torrie's Song: The First Christmas Carol
Torrie's Song the First Christmas Carol by Marcia Ashford

How do writers chose their subject material?

We writers tend to dream of changing to world and supporting others with our writings.

Wanting to make a difference is important. Various subjects are utilized with many of our own personal experiences showing up in the text.

Torrie's Song is a combination of the gentle side of life, solving problems, hard work, and learning to believe in herself. All are issues many of us have experienced in our lifetime.

How do you handle a problem? According to Torrie you keep a song in your heart. ♥

Torrie's Song, The First Christmas Carol is the story of one little lamb who loves to sing. Problem? She can't carry a tune. As a matter of fact, everyone runs for cover when she opens her mouth to sing.

One day God finds her in the desert and tells her to practice singing and to have faith. The rest will come naturally.

Believing in yourself and your skills/writing subjects are key to being a writer. It takes time and a lot of practice just like singing but it can be done. Simple daily writing activities can boost your writing muscles and as you grow you can move on to more detailed work, just like Torrie.

Writing can be fun. It can be challenging. Some never write more than a check or letter, while others write poetry, books, and songs. Why? We are all different and have unique talents.

Also, at different stages of our lives our interests tend to change. I was a prolific writer in high school and college. Then I got a job and kids. There was no time available for sitting down and focusing on a blank page. You understand. Our lives can be hectic and writing sometimes does not fare well hand in hand with a busy life.

What we can do during those times is journal. Journaling is writing. The great subject is you so that should be fun and relief the stress of a busy day. Grab a copy of my Flip Your Mermaid Tail to use as your journal!

What other things do you do to get you in the Christmas mode?

I put on Christmas Carols. A musician, I never get tired of hearing the same ol' songs. It really brightens a room and our spirits-your families and friends to sing together during the holidays and Christmas songs make a great bedtime song.

Baking is another thing to boost spirits this time of year. My Mother made great quick rolls with a simple recipe. You know Torrie and your family and friends can't say no to hot rolls! Yummy!

bread in a basket

Opal's Quick and Easy Rolls

2 cups self rising flour

1/4 cup shortening (or choose a substitute)

1/4 cup sugar (or substitute)

3/4 cup lukewarm water

1 package yeast

Mix and roll out the same way you would do biscuits.

Cut-dip in margarine.

Bake 450 for about 10 minutes-we know every stove is different>

Now that you are munching on delicious rolls let's get back to Torrie. Just like you she will not give up on what she is destined to do. I know those poor animals had to listen to some really, really bad singing before she perfected her song and voice.

You too, may have to do a task, art work, song writing, designing before you become a master and you may also hear complainers but remember... Be like Torrie and never give up!

Torrie the First Christmas Carol is written for families. We know little ones will especially love Torrie. It is a sweet story, teachers many lessons and makes a great bedtime read and if you look at the last pages there is a special Christmas song-Torrie's Lullaby that she sang for baby Jesus in the children's book.

Parents will enjoy reading to their children. Grandparents create new Christmas memories by reading to grandchildren. Families will read and share for years to come. Makes a perfect gift for Christmas AND the most-est best is reading aloud to others.

Torrie sings a song of welcome, hope, faith and love. You too can sing Torrie’s Song with your own personal manuscript of “Torrie’s Lullaby”. It was composed especially for you, and yours.
